Collared Warp Cardigan

Skacel`s Ocean makes this garment adaptable as a cardigan or bathing suit coverup worked in a garter lace stitch.

KNITTED MEASUREMENTS

  • Finished Bust: 36 (38 1/2, 411/2) in.
  • Back Length: 26 1/2 (27 1/2, 28) in.

MATERIALS

  • 13(15, 17), 50 gm/79 yd balls of Skacel Ocean (61% cotton, 29% tac-tel, 10% nylon)
  • One pair straight addi Turbo® knitting needles in size 7 U.S. OR SIZE REQUIRED TO OBTAIN GAUGE
  • Circular addi Turbo® knitting needle in size 7 U.S. for l-cord
  • One large stitch holder
  • Stitch markers




GAUGE

  • 12 sts and 19 rows = 4 in. with Skacel OCEAN in Garter Lace St.
  • TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

PATTERN STITCHES

Garter Lace Stitch (multiple of 4 sts + 2):
Row 1: K 2, *yfwd, p2tog, k 2; rep from * to end.
Repeat Row 1 for Garter Lace St.
Old Shale Lace Stitch (multiple of 11 sts):
Row 1: K.
Row 2: *K2tog, twice, yo, k 1, yo, k 1, yo, k 1, yo, k2tog, twice: rep from * to end.
Row 3: P.
Row 4: K.
Rep Rows 1-4 for Old Shale Lace St.

BACK

cardigan back diagramCO 54 (58, 62) sts loosely. Work in Garter Lace St, dec 1 st each side on Row 15 and every foil 8th (9th, 9th) row 3 times – 46 (50, 54) sts.

Note: To prevent holes in Garter Lace St dec by k2tog tbl when dec over a yrnfd. Inc 1 st each side on Row 48 and every foll 10th row 3 times – 54 (58, 62) sts. Work even until piece meas 18 (19, 19) in. from beg.

Shape armholes: Dec 1 st each side every row 5 times -44 (48, 52) sts. Work even until piece meas 26 (27, 271/2) in. from beg.
Shape neck/shoulders: BO in St st, not Garter Lace St, 14(16, 17) sts at the beg of next 2 rows.

Note: While binding off, k each yrnfd tbl to prevent a hole. SI rem 16 (16, 18) sts on large holder.

LEFT FRONT

cardigan left diagramCO 34 (38, 42) sts loosely. Work in Garter Lace St shaping side as for Back. Work until piece meas 15 (16, 16) in. from beg, begin neck shaping.
Shape neck/armhole: Dec 1 st at neck edge on next row, every alt 2nd and 3rd row 2 (3, 5) times, every 3rd row 6 (6, 7) times, then every 4th row 6 (7, 7) times; AT THE SAME TIME, when piece meas 18 (19, 19) in. from beg, shape armhole same as Back — 14 (16, 17) sts. Work until piece meas 26 1/2 (27 1/2, 28) in. from beg. BO all sts.

RIGHT FRONT

Work as for Left Front, rev shaping.

SLEEVES

CO 34 (35, 37) sts loosely. Work in Garter Lace St, ending with k 2 (k 3, k 2) at end of pat row. Inc 1 st each side every 9th (10th, 10th) row 5 times, then every 7th (8th, 8th) row 2 times – 48 (49, 51) sts. Work until piece meas 13 1/2 (14 1/2, 15) in. from beg, ending with a WSR.

FINISHING

Sew shoulder, side and Sleeve seams. Set-in sleeves.

Collar

Mark 7/2 in. down from shoulder seam along Right and Left Front V-neck. Beg at marker on Left Front, with WS facing, PU 25 sts evenly to Back neck, k 16 (16, 18) from Back neck holder, PU 25 sts evenly along Right Front to marker – 66 (66, 68) sts.
For sizes Small & Medium only: Work in Old Shale Lace St.
For size Large only: K 1, work in Old Shale Lace St to last st, k 1. Cont in Old Shale Lace St as est until collar meas 8 in. from beg. BO all sts loosely.

1-Cord Waist Ties (make 2): CO 3 sts using circular ndl. Do not turn work. Slide 3 sts to opp end of ndl and k 3. Do not turn work, slide 3 sts to opp end of ndl and k 3. Cont to slide sts and k 3, creating an l-cord until tie meas 44 (44, 46) in. long. K3tog and fasten off. Sew one end of each tie to Left and Right Front edges at waist. Thread Left Front tie through Right Front at side seam.
